Corwen choir to appear with Six Nations Trophy

A CHOIR of Corwen children are to make to their maiden appearance at a star-studded show in the town next month.

Cor Plant Edeyrnion, made up of 30 youthful members, will greet the Six Nations Trophy with a specially composed song when it arrives in the town on Friday, June 13.

"They have been working very hard with their conductor Bethan Smallwood and accompanist Sioned Hughes and Eirian Jones, and have learned this song specially." said Sian Parry, Welsh Language Development Officer for Corwen.

"This will be their first performance and they’re all really looking forward to it."

Their song ‘Sgorio Cais’ - Score A Try - is adapted from a song by Robat Arwyn and composed locally in the town for the Grand Slam for Corwen evening.

The star of the show is the Six Nations Trophy itself, which was won earlier this year by the Welsh national rugby team when they competed against France in at the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff.

Jeremy Knibbs, Area Regeneration Manager for Denbighshire County Council, says the trophy’s time in the town and the choir’s contribution is a symbol of greater things to come for Corwen.

"We’re thrilled that the children’s choir are making their first public appearance at the event and we’re also delighted with the level of support from the local community" he said.

The event is being held in aid of Ty Gobaith, a charity which provides respite care for seriously ill children from across North Wales.
