Corwen bridge repair work halted by nesting birds

REPAIR works on a Corwen bridge ground to a halt earlier this month after council workers discovered a feathered family living in a nest on the site.

The county council’s Bridges Section began work to repair the bridge on Green Lane in the town on June 23, but had to delay work for a week after it was discovered birds were nesting at the location.

Traders in the town say that the work, which started last month, has had an effect on business in the area, and Corwen councillor Huw Jones said that the timing of the repairs was far from ideal.

"It is a difficult time for trading at the moment, especially given that work has only just finished on the car park at Green Lane" he said.

"Another problem is that there are no signs to redirect people into the town - it’s almost as though we’ve been taken off the map."

The repair work affects the road from its junction in the town centre to the point where it meets the A5 main road.

Traffic will be diverted via the B5437 Carrog Road and the A494 to its junction with the A5 during the works, which the council say is expected to last five months.
