Trefnant cakemaker celebrates 100th birthday

Doris Griffiths

A LADY with a talent for cake-making celebrated her 100th birthday last week at her home in Trefnant last week by blowing out a few candles of her own.

Doris Griffiths, who is originally from Todmorden, Lancashire, but first moved to Ruthin in the 1970s, blew out the candles after reaching her centenary at a party held at Clwydian Park Crescent with friends and family.

"She’s quite a gifted lady and has decorated cakes for quite a lot of important people" said daughter Maureen Shephard.

"She’s never happy unless she’s got something to do, and is a very busy lady, which I think is what has kept her going all this time."

Denbigh councillor Raymond Bartley, who also attended, said: "She’s been a very artistic lady in her time and some of her work samples which I saw were out of this world" he said.

"It was a pleasure and an honour to meet her and everybody at the county council wishes her a very happy birthday."
