Cricket: Ruthin youngsters in cracking form

RUTHIN Under-Nines cricket team continued their good recent form with a great win against Llay. This is the first season of competitive cricket for the side and the signs are looking good.

Llay batted first and reached 212. Ruthin bowled and fielded very well with Rhys Tudor Jones starring, taking seven wickets in the innings including a hat-trick.

Ruthin also batted well but it was not until the last over that the winning runs were hit by Dafydd Marsh, who found the boundary to seal victory. Dyfan Humphreys was the pick of Ruthin’s batsmen as the innings closed on 216.

"It’s good to see these young lads playing cricket and also enjoying themselves," said Alun Jones, secretary of Ruthin Cricket Club.

"This is the first season in a long time we have had a youth team, and we are already starting to see the benefits."
