Football: Ruthin youngsters are rolling in silverware

FOLLOWING a tremendous season Ruthin Town Youth FC have scooped another haul of trophies!

All five Ruthin teams won their respective Fair Play Awards in the Wrexham and District Youth Football League, a feat never before achieved by one club in a single season.

"We are gobsmacked to be awarded these honours which is a fantastic reflection upon the good behaviour of the young footballers, supporters and coaches alike," said chairman Wynne Davies.

There were more celebrations as Ruthin Youth FC held two packed presentation nights at the senior football club’s HQ.

Special guests on both evenings were Mr and Mrs Brian and Veronica Johnson. Mr Johnson, general administrator of the Wrexham and District Youth Football League and vice- chairman of the North East Wales FA, congratulated the club for its on-field successes and impeccable running off it.

Ruthin’s roll of honour for 2007/08 makes impressive reading:

Under-12s – third in league, Fair Play Trophy winners.

Under-13s – second in league, won North East Wales FA Cup and Fair Play Trophy.

Under-14s – won league championship, League Cup, North East Wales FA Cup and Fair Play Trophy.

Under-15s – third in league, won Fair Play Trophy.

Under-16s – won league championship, League Cup, North East Wales FA Cup and Fair Play Trophy.

Chairman Davies paid tribute to the many people who contribute so much to the running of the club behind the scenes, including treasurer Gareth Griffiths and retiring secretary Sian Jones who was presented with a special award for her outstanding service over eight years.

Aled Davies received the Owen Roberts Memorial Shield in recognition of his long distinguished service and Wynne Davies and Jeff Roberts were handed frame mounted shirts signed by all members of their squads.

Others singled out for special praise were Ifor Thomas, all the management teams and club sponsors.

Six new matching kits have been purchased for next season so a special thank you was afforded to the main sponsors who are: anonymous local company, Lewis Electrics, Rubbertech, Hill and Roberts, Taylor Engineering, The Venue, Morgans of Ruthin, Royal Mail and Ruthin Rotary Club.

Individual award winners:

Most Improved Player: Under-12s – Tomos Owen, Under-13s – Iwan Davies, Under-14s – Dan Lloyd, Under-15s – Rashard Jones, Under- 16s – Stephen Jones.

Clubman: U12s – Josh Carney, U13s – Harri Owen, U14s – David Finnie, U15s – Dafydd Davies, U16s – Ben Jones.

Manager’s Player: U12s – Meredydd Jones, U13s – Emyr Gwynedd, U14s – Mike Jones, U15s – Gareth Morgan, U16s – Alex Gill.

Players’ Player: U12s – Jamie Jones, U13s – Osian Jones, U14s – Iolo Hughes, U15s – Joe Parry, U16s – Gwydion Ifan.
