Cricket: Sixteen-year-old is Rhewl's brightest light

RHEWL (1) 94 NORTHOP (23) 95-3

DIVISION ONE

SIXTEEN-YEAR-OLD Alex Gill once again confirmed his outstanding potential by scoring a fabulous half century at Ruthin School.

It was the only highpoint in an otherwise dismal afternoon for the Vale villagers who were well beaten by the runaway division leaders.

Put into bat, Rhewl were all out for 94, Gill the only batsman on show, for either team, to really come to terms with a very difficult surface. The teenager scored a well crafted 50 exactly, which on any other surface would have been equivalent to a century.

Gill’s innings held the Rhewl innings together and included seven boundaries and stoic defence.

Northop comfortably made it to 95 for three, despite spinners Chris Campbell picking up two early wickets and Rob Eccles bowling 13 overs for just 15 runs, including 10 maidens.
